Hotel Ambassador Labuan

Saturday, September 27th, 2008 | Hotel with No Comments »

Hotel Ambassador 1 is located right behind Labuan Supermarket and it is another corner block hotel about three storeys in height. There is also a Shop N’ Save store in the vicinity but don’t expect to find top quality merchandise there. Labuan is not really a place to go shopping except for some beer and hard liquor. If you are a lover of chocolates then there might be some variety available here in Labuan. If you enjoy cars then they only come cheap here but lacking in variety.

Hotel SkyGlobal Labuan

Saturday, September 20th, 2008 | Hotel with No Comments »

Hotel SkyGlobal is another hotel that is located right in Labuan town. There are actually not many places to stay in Labuan that are located out of the town area. This hotel seems to be just seated at a hot spot where the next block happens to be an entertainment lot with alot of eateries in the vincinity.
This is one of the places to eat in Labuan that I go to once in a while to fuel my hunger :) . It seems that the Superior and Deluxe Queen room are either very limited or very popular in this hotel. Tried a couple of times to secure a booking but seems to be always occupied.
The reception area is small and simple so don’t go expecting a big surprise with the red carpet rolled out and chandeliers hanging on the ceiling :) .
Just a block or two away you can find Hotel Pulau Labuan Inn.

Hotel SkyGlobal rates are currently going at,
Superior Queen - RM78
Deluxe Queeen - RM88
Superior Deluxe Queen - RM108
Deluxe Twin - RM118
Deluxe King - RM118
Deluxe Triple - RM128
(All are nett prices)

You And The Secrets To Taking Better Photographs

Thursday, August 28th, 2008 | Photography with No Comments »

If you think you can’t take good photographs, don’t be discouraged. Just a few helpful tips (ssshhhh!!! don’t tell anyone, this is just between you and me okay :) ) and you are well on the way to taking better photographs. This is actually a known secret to the regular shooters but a real secret to the beginners.

Intersection Of Thirds
This is where those grid lines (normally available through menu functions in modern digital cameras) comes in handy. If your camera don’t have this feature then you can just make up imaginary lines. You do this by just dividing your screen by one thirds both vertically and horizontally thereby creating a box of 3×3’s.

Then when you compose your shot try to place your subject at any of this intersection points and fire away. At times placing your subject off center will make your pictures a lot more presentable.

Shooting At A Low Angle
Get down low and tilting your camera so that your camera is not perpendicular with the subject you are shooting often creates an interesting image especially if you are shooting at wide angle.
Try changing your angle and composition of shooting and experiment a lot till you get use to it. Then the next time you go out for a shoot; composing will come naturally.

Up Close And Personal
This happens to be one of my favorites. Getting close to your subject or even cropping your image tightly will often yield better pictures. Try not using the zoom to get closer but walk closer to your subject whenever if possible.

I do enjoy taking pictures and I am still in the phase of honing my skills. Actually I have just started my own photo gallery for myself and others to share their photography skills :) You can find my gallery at Labuanite Photo Gallery. Don’t expect to see much there yet though as I am still fiddling with the setup.

I would also like to spread the news that ProBlogger.net has another great contest running called Killer Titles. Please visit Killer Titles for more info.

Victoria Hotel

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008 | Hotel with No Comments »

Victoria Hotel in Labuan claims to have 46 rooms available. Accomodation in Labuan is actually aplenty provided you know where to find it. The printed leaflet of Hotel Victoria claims the hotel to be centrally located in the town area and it just takes about 10 minutes to get to the Labuan Airport by vehicle.

It’s rooms are carpeted and fully air-conditioned and they all have an attached bathrooom complete with hot and cold water. It also has a lift to get to the upper floors - a necessity for the older generation (yep, no walking up the stairs for me here :) ) . Other facilities available are room service, laundry and dry cleaning services and even a private bedroom safe to keep your valuables tucked away safely.

Victoria Hotel has also a colour television with in house video to keep you entertained while you are in your room. A refrigerator is also available but not in every room class, you will need to give them a call to get their latest facilities and pricing. They do also have an IDD telephone in case you need one.
